Today in my film class we were talking about 2001 Space Odyssey and the death scene of Hal.

A lot of my class found it funny and were laughing throughout the process and it got me really upset.

Hal was alive. He knew what the crew was planning and acted in self defense because he was afraid and didn’t want to die.

As Dave begins to destroy him, Hal reiterates that he can feel it and is afraid and slowly started to revert to being nothing more than programming as evident by his speech pattern going from fluid to something similar of a speak and spell.

his mind be destroyed and yet people find it funny.

It’s heartbreaking.

Note: Yeah, I probably read way too much Asimov when I was younger and is why I love robots so much and get angry at stupid humans
